Officer-Involved Shooting In Steelville Under Investigation
An officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday in Steelville is under investigation.
A Steelville police officer and Crawford County sheriff’s deputy reportedly fired several rounds at a suspect vehicle.
The sheriff’s department alleges the suspect was driving toward the officers and feared for their safety.
The suspect is in stable condition and being treated at a St. Louis-area hospital.
Charges are pending against the suspect and the name is being withheld.
Sheriff Darin Layman said the deputy has been placed on administrative leave, per department procedure.
According to Layman, the incident occurred in the 200 block of Gridley Street, spurred by a domestic assault.
Authorities went to investigate the incident when the suspect returned in a vehicle and driving at a high rate of speed.
The suspect allegedly drove through the yard and towards authorities.
Both officers began firing several rounds.
The vehicle became disabled prior to striking the officers.
The suspect was removed from the vehicle and had a gunshot wound.
