State Track Athletes Capped Off 2020-21 Sports Season
Two Lady Eagles track and field athletes capped off the 2020-21 sports season with medals at the state meet.
Reagan Thomure collected three medals and Jaiden Hodges one.
Thomure, who is continuing her career at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, took fifth in the 100-meter and 400-meter and sixth in the 200-meter.
Hodges came in seventh in the discus.
It was a season of success for the pair.
Thomure barely missed making state as a sophomore in 2019, then lost her junior season due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
She spent 2021 on a medal spree, winning five first place medals in the 100-meter, six first place medals in the 200-meter and three first place medals in the 400-meter.
Hodges won several medals throughout the season, finishing first the Sullivan 9/10 Invitational, third at the Don Olszowka Invitational at Union and three fourth place finishes at the conference, district and sectional meets.
She also acquired medals in the shot put.
The boys track and field team didn’t qualify any runners for state, but still had several individual successes.
Derek Johnson won multiple medals in throwing events.
Aiden Kirk was strong in both track and field, earning medals in running events and the high jump. He also won the Washington Pentathlon.
Jason Blankenship, Jon Krygiel and Nick Parker were successful in individual sprints and relays.
Girls Soccer
The Lady Eagles tied their program record with 15 wins in 2021 and did so with several players new to varsity soccer.
Players who would have been freshmen in the lost season of 2020 stepped up as sophomores.
Emily Willman and Emma Brune teamed up to lead the team in goals and assists, respectively.
Willman provided 20 goals and seven assists, while Brune scored 10 goals and seven assists.
Emma Adams, another sophomore, had six goals and three assists.
Freshman goalkeeper Maria Schatzl debuted with 10 shutouts and made 208 saves.
Seniors Kayleigh Willman and Raeleigh Miller each played big roles, with Willman scoring 10 goals and Miller assisting on 13.
Sullivan went into the district tournament riding a four-game winning streak that included shutouts against Warrenton, Dixon, De Soto and Wright City.
The season ended with a 3-1 loss to St. Clair in the first round.
Baseball
Sullivan struggled throughout the 2021 season, finishing with a 6-15 record.
The Eagles had a mix of seniors and newcomers.
Senior JD McReynolds was the biggest bright spot.
He hit .400 and led the Eagles with 12 RBIs.
On the mound, he was dominant — throwing 43 innings, striking out 82 and finishing with a 0.81 ERA.
It was one of the best performances by an Eagles pitcher in the last half decade, but consistency plagued Sullivan.
Senior Jacob Brooks hit .338 and sophomore Dayton Skaggs hit .308.
Golf
Sullivan’s golf team had a Four Rivers Conference championship in their sights in 2021, but stumbled in the tournament and dropped to second.
The Eagles were unbeaten throughout conference duals.
Jordan Woodcock was Sullivan’s lone state qualifier.
