City Discusses Main St. Project And Approves Monthly Bills

The Sullivan City Council met in open session on Tuesday, July 20, where they have lengthy discussions on OHV/UTV’s being allowed on city streets, which was approved and can be read in a separate article, but they also approved some additions to the Main St. Sidewalk Project and approved payment of the monthly bills totaling $1,539,190.29.

Under City Administrator J.T. Hardy’s Report, City Engineer Robert Schaffer appeared to the council to report that the West Main St. Sidewalk Project came in under budget and stated that the contractor on the project has offered to continue with improvements for the Community Center areas as well as the Main St. sidewalk between Hughes Ford Rd. and Selby St.

Following some discussions the insure that ADA, (American Disability Act handicapped accessibility the council agreed to proceed with other additions and vote on an ordinance at the August meeting.

Hardy reported that Planning and Zoning gave approval for a conditional use permit to be issued for Carl Duff Ministries/House of Hope for a temporary Gospel Tent to be held August 1-12 at 309 North Service Rd. West.

Payment of the city bills was approved unanimously by the council in the amount of $1,539,190.29.

In Alderman Input, Alderman Jason Alexander asked what the status of the Northside Trail Project was with Engineer Schaffer reporting that the biggest delay right now is easement issues.

City Clerk Jan Koch reported that as soon as information from Franklin and Crawford Counties are received, a public hearing will be held in August for the city’s 2021 tax levy.

The council had no items for closed session.
