Warner R. “Sam” Bass, 85, of Sullivan, MO, passed away at Missouri Baptist Hospital Sullivan on Sunday, July 26, 2020.

Warner Ralph Bass, known as Sam, was born in Sullivan, MO, on May 6, 1935, to the late Ralph and Doynne (Maxwell) Bass.  He grew up attending school in Sullivan and graduated from Sullivan High School, class of 1953.  Sam married Nancy Lawrence in 1956 and they were blessed with four children:  Chris, Patty, Sammy and Shelly.  Sam and Nancy were later divorced.  

Sam was later united in marriage to Peggy Fisher in 1978 and they enjoyed many wonderful years together.  Peggy had three children of her own, Matt, Dede and Clay.  

Through the years, Sam worked for the local shoe factory, the mines, and eventually retired from Von Weise at age 70.  He enjoyed fishing, camping, boating and woodworking.  He especially loved his cars and motorcycles.  He was able to remember different things throughout his life by what car he owned at the time. Sam was so loved by his family and will be lovingly remembered and missed.

Sam is survived by 7 children: Chris Wigger and husband, Tom, of Sullivan, Patty LaPlant and husband, Darrell, of Sullivan, Sammy Bass of Gasconade City, MO, Shelly Head and husband, Tracy, of Sullivan, Matt Wideman and wife, Nancy, of St. Clair, Dede Barton and husband, Levi, of Sullivan, and Clay Wideman of Union, MO; 21 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; and other relatives and many friends. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; his parents, Ralph and Doynne Bass; one sister, Ramona Beckman; and one great-great-grandson, Chandler Werley. 

Funeral services were 10 a.m., Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, officiated by Pastor Chester Lahmann. Interment followed in Masonic Cemetery in Potosi. 

Visitation was held from 4  p.m. – 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Eaton Funeral Home.

In loving memory of his wife, Peggy, memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
