Woman Impersonates Officer, Found With Methamphetamine
A woman was arrested Oct. 15 after attempting to enter multiple apartments in Leasburg, falsely claiming to be a law enforcement officer and being found with methamphetamine.
Misty Rogers, 38, Leasburg, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, trespassing and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Rogers was a previous tenant at the apartment. Police found her with a hat that said “North Pole Conductor.” She also claimed to officers that she was with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
According to the probable cause statement, authorities responded to a report of suspicious activity at an apartment complex in the 600 block of Southwest Main Avenue at approximately 4:37 p.m.
Complaints were received from residents about a female attempting to unlock various apartments with a set of keys, later identified as Rogers.
Two of the residents told officers that Rogers tried to enter their apartments using keys. When confronted, Rogers claimed she was a police officer and that the apartments were rented to her. According to one of the residents, Rogers wore a blue hat resembling one with "Sheriff" written on it and insisted that anyone could verify her status as a law enforcement officer.
Upon arrival, officers found Rogers in the hallway with a set of keys and a large blue purse. After detaining her, police searched the purse, finding a blue hat with "North Pole Conductor" embroidered in gold lettering and a glass pipe that tested positive for methamphetamine.
Rogers initially claimed she was an officer with the DEA.
However, officers advised her that falsely identifying as a police officer is illegal. Rogers stated she was trying to locate an apartment that a friend allegedly rented for her, but the building owner confirmed no such arrangement existed.
Rogers was transported to the Crawford County Jail, where she was booked on a 24-hour hold.
She remains in custody.
