Unlicensed Truck Driver Involved In I-44 Crash Charged
Charges were filed against a New York man who was operating a tractor trailer without a license, struck a vehicle at the St. Clair rest area and left the scene on March 20.
Jagdeep Singh, born 1997, was charged Thursday with leaving the scene of an accident and careless and imprudent driving.
Singh told police he utilized his brother’s information to gain a job with a trucking company.
Around 5:24 am., Singh exited the rest area to enter Interstate 44 and while merging into traffic, struck another vehicle.
Singh told police he thought it was a deer and continued driving.
The driver of the other vehicle had injuries and was transported to the hospital.
The victim gave a description of an Indiana license plate, which was matched at the Flying J truck stop in Sullivan.
Singh told police he did not have a commercial driver’s license. The company he worked for allegedly gave him a truck to operate.
