A Sullivan woman was killed by an oncoming tractor trailer that crossed the median Wednesday on Interstate 44.

Both vehicles caught fire after the collision.

The crash occurred around 6:18 a.m. at the 227 mile marker in Sullivan.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2016 Kenworth Conventional tractor — driven by Manpreet Singh, 28, Elmont, New York —  that was westbound traveled through the cable barrier and entered the eastbound lane.

The vehicle traveled directly into the path of a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by Edith L. McKee, 59, Sullivan.

The tractor trailer struck the right side of McKee’s vehicle.

Both vehicles skidded off the road and caught fire.

McKee was pronounced dead at 6:37 a.m.

Singh had minor injuries.

Both drivers had their seat belts on.

Traffic was stalled for miles as the crews worked to clean up the crash scene.
