Sullivan Steak ’N Shake Demolished Tuesday

Sullivan’s Steak ’N Shake was demolished Tuesday, clearing the way for a Tidal Wave Car Wash.

The doors closed at the restaurant in March 2019 and never reopened.

It has sat unoccupied at 681 Sycamore since then. The parking lot has been sporadically used by vendors.

Steak ’N Shake’s parent company closed more than 30 locations from January 2019 to April 2019. Many of the closings were in the St. Louis region.

Restaurant Business reported in February 2022 that Biglari Holdings, which owns the chain, turned a profit in 2021 for the first time in four years.

Steak ’N Shake moved away from full-service family-dining to focus on a fast food concept. 

Self-order kiosks were installed at many of the locations.
