Sullivan City Council Approves Street Closure, Promotion And Ordinances
The Sullivan City Council met in open session one Tuesday, November 1, approving a street closure request, three ordinances and a promotion in the police department.
Rachel Shoemaker, Sullivan Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, appeared before the council seeking to close Main Street from Clark Street to Taylor Street on November 26, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the Christmas Tree lighting program. The council approved the request.
Three ordinances were approved by the council that included:
Ord. 3976, which repealed pseudoephedrine prescription requirements in the City of Sullivan as the State of Missouri tracking system for said products no longer makes it necessary to have the ordinance on the books within the City of Sullivan;
Ord. 3977, modified existing building codes by adopting the U.S. Department of Energy requirements for indoor shooting ranges into the City of Sullivan’s building codes;
Ord. 3978, approved the sale of vacant city-owned property located at 231 North Center St. to Dace Construction in the amount of $6,500.
Under Aldermen Input, Alderman Jason Alexander continued his persistence for residents in his ward seeking sidewalks on North and South Rd.
Alexander stated he needed critical information to pass along to constituents.
City Administrator J.T. Hardy reported that if the city was going to pursue Community Development Block Grant funding for the project they would need to act soon as the grant would be due for 2023. Hardy added that the cost along one side is estimated at $800,000 and the city would have a match of 20 percent to 80 percent supplied by the grant. The city would also be responsible for design and engineering for the project at the cost estimated at $338,000.
Hardy also added that if the city was gonna pursue the grant a budget amendment would need to be made for the project.
Mayor Dennis Watz asked if any board members were opposed to the city seeking the grant.
None of the aldermen were opposed and the matter will be placed on the November 15 council meeting agenda.
Watz, under Mayor Input, reported he was pleased with the way the new water meters have been monitoring and reporting usage,
The council went into closed session where they discussed one matter of personnel and two matters of real estate.
The only action taken was the promotion of Officer Donald Reed to the position of Detective Sergeant upon the retirement of Ralph Finn in March 2023.
