Stolen Vehicle Pursuit Ends In Arrest Of Villa Ridge Man
A Villa Ridge man was arrested Thursday evening following a high-speed chase that began when a deputy spotted a stolen vehicle.
Keanan Shaw, 23, was charged with first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, felony resisting arrest by flight, driving while intoxicated and driving with a revoked license.
The incident occurred around 7:50 p.m. on Oct. 3, when a Franklin County deputy, stationed at the intersection of Highways AT and 100, identified a green Ford F-250 reported stolen from Pacific the day before. The same vehicle had been involved in a pursuit with the Missouri State Highway Patrol on October 2, which was called off in the St. Louis area.
The deputy confirmed the truck was the stolen vehicle but did not immediately attempt a traffic stop. Instead, the deputy followed the truck to allow other law enforcement officers to converge.
As the vehicle traveled along Highway AT, the deputy observed erratic driving, suggesting the driver might be impaired. The driver accelerated westbound on Highway 50, reaching speeds of up to 90 mph while crossing the centerline and passing multiple vehicles. The deputy activated emergency lights and sirens, prompting the driver to flee.
Franklin County deputies pursued the vehicle, and a tire deflation device was successfully deployed at the intersection of Highway 50 and East Denmark. The pursuit continued across several local roads until deputies observed an opportunity to force the vehicle off the road on Progress Parkway, though the driver regained control.
At the intersection of Highway 50, deputies tried again to force the vehicle off the road, causing the truck to spin and collide with a deputy’s vehicle, disabling the stolen truck. The driver, identified asShaw, was taken into custody.
One deputy suffered minor injuries and was transported for evaluation. Shaw, who had an active warrant for felony leaving the scene of an accident, was also the subject of investigations involving stolen vehicles in eastern Franklin County.
