Stanton Man Charged In Theft Of MSHP Vehicle

A Stanton man was charged April 25 with the theft of a Missouri State Highway Patrol vehicle, leading a pursuit that ended on Highway N.

The theft occurred April 7 during a traffic stop on Highway 19 and Birdsnest Road.

Court documents say the man was handcuffed and placed in the front seat of the patrol car while the trooper who arrested him was helping another trooper search the stopped vehicle.

The man reached speeds of 110 mph in the patrol car and used aggressive braking in an attempt to get the chasing deputy to slam into him.

After wrecking the vehicle into a ditch, he fled into the woods.

He was captured earlier this week and transported to a Missouri Department of Correction facility.

His girlfriend also has been charged with hindering the prosecution of a felony after she allegedly lied about his identity to troopers.

The woman has been released on bond.
