Sidewalks, Meramec Community Fair, Ordinance Top Council Meeting

The Sullivan City Council met in open session on Tuesday, October 18, where they approved a request for a street closure, discussed sidewalk projects and received a report from the Meramec  Community Fair.

Meramec Community Fair, President, James Bartle addressed the council expressing the fair board appreciation for the dedicated and supportive effort made by the City of Sullivan, Board of Aldermen and City Departments that help make the fair happen each year.

Bartle stated that the 2022 Fair was a success in many ways in that weather was not an impact and the fair was able to make a profit to ensure the 2023 Fair will be held June 22-24.

The fair was able to present the city with a check for $3,352.20 for five percent of gross sales from the fair grounds. The fair was also able to make some improvements to the fairgrounds to offset the original amount of $6,704.40. These improvements included new gutters on the 4-H Livestock building and improvements on the stage and other areas.

Sullivan Mayor Dennis Watz expressed his appreciation for the fair board and President Bartle for his leadership and serving as President once again in 2023.

The council gave approval to Temple Baptist Church for a temporary street closure on Monday, October 31, from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for their Annual Fall Festival. The request was to close Beeman St. from Orchard to South Mansion, which runs directly infront of Temple Baptist Church.

The City Council voted not to be included in the Ozark Run Scenic Byway following Franklin County opting not to be included in the byway. The decision had to be submitted to Missouri Department of Transportation.

The council approved payment of the monthly bills totaling $1,923,301.57 unanimously.

Ordinance 3975, was approved by the council which allowed Sullivan Terrace Plat 2, located off Roanoke Dr. and combined three lots into one lot and was also approved by Planning and Zoning. The property is owner by Chris and Jennifer Bunk.

Aldermen Matt Wiegers and Aldermen Jason Alexander each expressed information and priority for two sidewalk projects on at Sappington Bridge Rd. and Highway D along with North and South Rd.

City Engineer Robert Schaffer stated that roundabout is still on MoDot’s radar for the crossing at Highway D and Sappington Bridge as well.

City Administrator J.T. Hardy explained that to move each project forward the city will likely have too budget funds to seek a matching grant similar to Elmont Overpass project.

Hardy informed the council that if the council wanted to go froward with these sidewalk projects a budget amendment would need to be completed.

The council had no items for closed session and concluded their meeting in one hour.
