Roach Mounting Write-In Campaign For District 2 Commissioner

Though District 2 Commissioner Jared Boast is unopposed on the ballot for reelection this November, a write-in candidate has emerged with less than six weeks away.

Kevin Roach, of Bourbon, is mounting a late effort to unseat the incumbent and deny him a third term. Roach’s write-in candidacy became official last week. On his Facebook page, Roach said he plans on improving the fiscal health of District 2. Funds from that district, he said, would be “directed back to the communities in the form of necessary public works such as libraries, schools, fire districts, and roadways.” However, it is unclear how the county would be able to do that as those entities have their own taxing systems in place.

Roach is a graduate of Bourbon High School, former owner of a construction business and 40 years experience in construction.

He also was a former grader operator for Crawford County. Roach said he took on the position to give his body time to heal from multiple shoulder surgeries. While employed, he said he worked alongside Randy Chandler, who unsuccessfully challenged Boast in the August primary.

Roach said Chandler expressed his interest in running for commissioner and he did not want to oppose him.
