Pedestrian Struck, Killed On Interstate 44 in Sullivan

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a Seymour man was killed early Thursday morning on Interstate 44 in Sullivan.

Daniel Kern, 63, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the highway patrol, the incident occurred at 4:39 a.m. at the 226 mile marker.

Kern was standing in the second lane when he was struck by a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Christopher DeBrecht, 55, Sullivan.

Kern was pronounced dead at 4:52 a.m.

DeBrecht had minor injuries and was taken to Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital.

After the impact, his vehicle traveled off the north side of the roadway.

He was wearing a seat belt.
