Man Facing Multiple Charges Following Violent Assault
A man has been charged in Franklin County after an alleged violent assault Aug. 23 involving a victim in a camper and subsequent criminal actions that spanned multiple locations.
Jared H. Combs, of Robertsville, faces one count of second-degree sodomy, second-degree kidnapping, first-degree domestic assault and second-degree domestic assault.
Combs is already facing a series of prior charges and active warrants, including fourth-degree assault and unlawful possession of explosive weapons.
According to the probable cause statement, the victim told authorities that the incident began when Combs showed up uninvited at the camper.
A verbal argument escalated when the victim asked him to leave, which Combs allegedly refused to do. Fearing for her safety, the victim got into her vehicle, but Combs allegedly began hitting her and tried to pull her out through the window.
The victim said she moved to the passenger seat to avoid further blows, but Combs fired five rounds from a pistol outside the vehicle. None of the shots hit her or the vehicle.
The probable cause statement further alleges that Combs entered the vehicle and began driving erratically while continuing to hit the victim, slamming on the brakes to cause her head to hit the dashboard. The victim stated that during the drive, Combs also struck her with the butt of the firearm.
The abuse continued at a residence on Highway HH, where Combs allegedly punched the victim in the stomach, kicked her while she was on the ground, and forced her to crawl.
After using the victim as a base to climb through a window, Combs dragged her inside the house by her hoodie and assaulted her further, according to the report.
The victim stated that during the attack, Combs threatened her life, insulted her parenting, and eventually forced her to perform a sexual act under the threat of further violence, all while keeping the firearm in his possession.
The report details that Combs later fell asleep, at which point the victim managed to escape.
Combs has a criminal history that includes first-degree assault in 2009, third-degree assault and resisting/interfering with arrest in 2007, fourth-degree assault in 2021 and unlawful use of a weapon in 2023.
Combs is being held without bond.
