Local Sixth Grader Cutting In 50 Lawn Challenge
A local Sullivan Middle School student is looking to help beautify his community and help those in need after accepting the 50 Yard Challenge in July.
Clifton Vaughn II, 11 and his parents Clifton Vaughn I and wife Jessica, saw a Facebook post regarding the 50 Yard Challenge sponsored by Raising Men and Women Lawn Care Shrive, “Giving Back To The Community,” started in Alabama as a 501(c)3.
The founder of the Program, Rodney Smith Jr., stated on the not-for-profit website, “Raising Men and Women Lawn Care Service is the union of an ordinary yard maintenance service and the commitment to establish an inspiring program to keep our youth on a positive path while learning and understanding the value in society. The program provides free lawn care to our elders, those who are disabled, single mothers, veterans, who do not have the time, resources and or money to take care of their yards.”
So it didn’t take Clifton Vaughn II long to submit to the program, which takes only a limited amount of young people in the program that funding will allow. The program has some 1,850 kids that have joined cutting some 15,000 lawns free and 100,000 supporters of the program worldwide.
Vaughn, after enrolling, received his program level one shirt, glasses and ear plugs but has to supply his own mower, trimmer and blower.
