Jury Acquits Steelville Man On Murder, Three Other Charges

A jury on Tuesday acquitted Scott Shook, 30, of four charges in the 2021 murder of Mark Palmer.

Shook was found not guilty of first-degree murder, armed criminal action, kidnapping and arson.

He was released from jail that afternoon.

Shook’s trial was moved from Crawford County to Dent County.

Shook and two other people — Marcus Dothage and Julie Brooks — were charged in the case. 

Dothage is scheduled to appear in court Monday, Oct. 17 for a case review. 

Brooks is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, Nov. 1 for a plea hearing. If she refuses a plea, a trial is scheduled to begin Monday, Dec. 19 in Crawford County.

Palmer disappeared from his home March 17, 2021 and his body was discovered March 30 near the Crooked Creek conservation access.
