Franklin County SWAT Assists CCSD With Leasburg Man’s Arrest
A Leasburg man was arrested Nov. 28 after three hours of negotiations with law enforcement.
The man allegedly fired a gun at a victim’s vehicle and reportedly threatened to shoot law enforcement.
Matthew Lewis, 41, was charged with Domestic Assault 1st Degree-Class B Felony, two counts of Armed Criminal Action- Unclassified Felonies, 2 counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon-Class B/Class E Felonies, Endangering the Welfare of a Child-1st Degree-Class D Felony, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon- Class D Felony, and Resisting Arrest in a Felony-Class E Felony, there was No Bond set.
According to the County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a domestic disturbance involving a firearm at a residence in the 900 block of Old Leasburg Rd., Leasburg.
Deputies learned that the suspect had discharged a firearm at the victims vehicle as she was leaving the residence after an altercation.
There was also a juvenile passenger in the vehicle. The suspect continued to message the victim and advised he would shoot at law enforcement if they responded.
Deputies requested the assistance of the Missouri State Highway Patrol to respond to the residence to establish a perimeter. When deputies arrived there was no contact with the suspect via loud speaker or by telephone, however there was believed to be movement within the residence.
Contact was made with Franklin County Sheriff's Office to request their Tactical Operations Unit to assist in taking the suspect into custody.
A search warrant was applied for to enter the residence and after 3 hours of attempted negotiations and tactical operations, Franklin County's SWAT team made entry into the residence.
The suspect was located hiding beneath a mattress in one of the bedrooms, before being taken into custody without any further incident. The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment before being transported to the Crawford Count Adult Detention Center pending application of charges.
