Four-Vehicle Collision Leaves One Seriously Injured

A four-vehicle crash on Interstate 44 resulted in serious injuries for one driver on Saturday.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:40 p.m. on Dec. 14 near the 228-mile marker in Franklin County. According to authorities, all four vehicles were traveling eastbound when the driver of a 2022 Western Star tractor-trailer became distracted and failed to pay attention to the road.

The 61-year-old driver from Bronx, New York, collided with a 2018 Hyundai Tucson, driven by a 22-year-old St. Louis man, as well as a 2023 Peterbilt truck, operated by a 28-year-old from Manteca, California. The force of the collision caused the Peterbilt to strike the rear of a 2024 Freightliner, driven by a 26-year-old Calderon, Ontario resident.

The driver of the Western Star sustained serious injuries and was transported to Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital for treatment. The drivers of the other vehicles involved were uninjured.

The crash caused significant traffic delays as emergency responders worked to clear the scene.
