First Annual Gateway To The Ozarks BBQ Cookoff Coming To Sullivan

MK BBQ LLC, in partnership with the Sullivan Chamber of Commerce, will host the first-ever Gateway to the Ozarks BBQ Cookoff on October 25-26.

The event will feature five competition categories: pork spare ribs, beef brisket, chicken (open), pork steak, and the People’s Choice award. Cash prizes will be awarded, including $500 for the Grand Champion, $300 for the Reserve Champion, and $250 for the People’s Choice winner. First-place winners in individual categories will receive $250, with $125 for second place and $75 for third.

“We are hoping to have several teams competing in this event and encourage local participants to show their pit master skills,” said Edward Kirk, owner of MK BBQ and lead organizer of the event.

Attendees will have the chance to sample the entries by purchasing a $10 wristband, which allows them to vote for the People’s Choice award.

Kirk noted that the event proceeds will benefit the Sullivan Chamber’s Gateway to the Ozarks fund, managed under its 501(c)(3) nonprofit account.

“We want to see more and more events like this in our community and hope to build this event each and every year,” Kirk added.
