Firefighters Contain Mobile Home Fire Following Explosion
An apparent explosion of some type occurred Wednesday afternoon, October 5, in a mobile home located in the 100 block of Highway WW at 1:26 p.m.
Sullivan Fire Chief Eric Lewis reported firefighters were dispatched for the alarm and as they were leaving the firehouse looked for signs of heavy smoke after receiving the report of a house fire with a loud explosion but didn’t observe a large plum.
Firefighters arrived and learned everyone was out of the home and quickly attacked the fire which was contained to the kitchen and front area of the mobile home.
“When our pumper arrived on the scene the duty crew observed flames coming out a kitchen window with the homeowner reporting that she was in the kitchen and heard an explosion that blew her out of the trailer,” said Chief Lewis. “She was not injured and firefighters were able to knock the fire down and bring it under control.”
Lewis reported that the fire damage was in the kitchen area and the damage was consistent with an explosion of some type and looked to be accidental but firefighters could not rule out an electrical issue as the cause of the fire.
“We received assistance from Bourbon Fire and Missouri Baptist Ambulance on the scene and were able to disregard St. Clair Fire as we brought the fire under control quickly,” said Chief Lewis.
There was extensive smoke and water damage to the home and fire damage to the kitchen and front area of the mobile home as well.
