Fire Alarms Overall Decrease During 2022
Fire alarms within the Sullivan Protection District decreased in 2022 compared to 2021 and 2020,, as the year-end statistics were released by Chief Eric Lewis.
The fire district responded to 960 alarms in 2022 compared to 1031 in 2021 and 1017 in 2020.
“Overall our number of alarms we’ re down slightly and we saw increases the number of structure fires, 64, compared to 51 in 2021 and 42m in 2020,” said Chief Lewis. “In reviewing the 2022 numbers there are always interesting statistics to review such as our most calls for alarms are at 2 a.m. and 1 p.m. with the busiest month being July with 98 alarms and Saturdays as the busiest day of the week with 167 alarms.”
The district is operated by a three-man Board of Directors, 11 full-time personnel that includes nine firefighters, chief and secretary and 32 volunteer firefighters.
In a review of civilians rescued from fires, vehicles accident, waterways and industry firefighters saved 18 civilians.
The overall busiest days of the calendar year for the fire district was November 14, with nine alarms, followed by March 5 and July 26, with eight alarms each.
Overall fire alarms accounts for 169 alarms, Rescue/EMS alarms 368, Hazardous conditions, 40 alarms, Service, 46, Good Intent, 217 and false alarms 105.
“We really didn’t observe any strong trends one way or another on alarm’s in 2022 and nothing alarming to speak of going into 2023,” said Lewis. “We always want to be proactive in our fire education programs and keeping pubic informed of anything that could cause high fire danger.”
