Drownings Reported In Meramec, Elk Rivers

At least two drownings occurred Memorial Day weekend, with casualties on the Meramec River in St. Louis County and Elk River in McDonald County.

According to Fox 2, a 19-year-old male drowned in the Meramec at Castlewood State Park on Monday.

The teen slipped into the water around 1:45 p.m. 

One of three men tried to pull him out, but the current was too fast.

CPR was administered by one man until paramedics showed up.

The teen was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and his death was confirmed early Tuesday morning. 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol investigated a drowning in the Elk River, located in southwestern Missouri.

According to the patrol, Matthew Frazier, 40, Neosho, entered into the river to retrieve a boat paddle on Sunday at 6:21 p.m.

Frazier was swept downstream and overcome with exhaustion.

He was pronounced dead on Monday at 10:05 a.m.
