Driver Falls Asleep, Overturns Vehicle On Interstate 44

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a driver fell asleep and overturned a vehicle Thursday on Interstate 44 at the 202 mile-marker.

James Porto, 64, Dora, Mo., had serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was flown to Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur for treatment.

Rita Porto, 69, Dora, Mo., had minor injuries. She sought her own treatment.

Both were wearing safety devices.

According to the patrol, James Porto was driving a 2012 Honda CRV around 2:45 p.m. when he traveled off the road.

He over-corrected and overturned.
