Credit Card Skimmer Discovered At Flying J

A credit card skimming device was discovered by employees of Flying J, 825 South Service Rd./Highway AF, on one of their fuel pumps Tuesday, August 30.

According to Sullivan Police Chief Patrick Johnson, the department was contacted by management at 12:45 p.m. regarding the credit card skimmer device on one of the diesel pumps.

A Flying J technician had discovered and removed the device, which was later identified as a blue tooth capable credit card skimmer that had been placed inside the fuel pump. The pump’s tamper seal was broken as a result of the device’s installation.

The good news from Sullivan Police and Flying J the specific pump with the device had been out of service for several days prior to being discovered due to a power outage at the fuel pump.

All fuel pumps were inspected and no other devices were located at the business.

Johnson stated that it is believed that no customers were affected by credit card compromise as a result of the skimmer device.

“We would like to remind citizens to check any point-of-sale device for anything out of the ordinary and report issues to the location’s management,” said Chief Johnson. “Any suspicious charges to a debit or credit card account should be immediately reported to the cardholders bank.”
