Crawford, Franklin County Sheriff’s Offices Increasing Presence Following TikTok Threats
Sheriff’s departments in Crawford and Franklin counties on Thursday said they will be increasing law enforcement presence in schools following a school shooting threat that originated on social media site TikTok.
According to reports, it is unclear where the threat originated, but a challenge was issued for individuals to call in bomb threats and school shooting threats across the United States.
Crawford County Sheriff Darin Layman said his office will be increasing law enforcement at local schools leading up to Christmas break.
“We ask…that our communities continue to be vigilant and report any threats,” he said.
Franklin County Sheriff Steven Pelton also said law enforcement will increase.
Pelton said the Cybercrime Unit and other investigators are “standing by to investigate any threats to schools in Franklin County.”
Sullivan Schools Superintendent Dr. Jana Thornsberry said in a statement that the district has been in contact with the Sullivan Police Department and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
“Our School Resource Officers and building administrators are aware of the TikTok threat and are taking extra precautions as well in the buildings,” she said. “There is no current evidence or suspicion of an immediate threat to the Sullivan School District.”
