Crash Shuts Down Interstate 44 Near Rest Area, One Person Reportedly Dead
Update:
A St. Clair woman was killed in a wrong way crash on Interstate 44 on Wednesday night at the 235 mile marker.
Victoria Wilson, 32, was pronounced dead at 7:25 p.m.
She was the passenger in a 2019 Buick Enclave.
The driver was Ryan Wilson, 36, who received serious injuries and was taken to Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital.
Neither occupants were wearing safety devices.
The wrong way driver was Emily Hernandez, 22, Sullivan.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Hernandez was driving a 2014 Volkswagen Passat. Hernandez was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes. Both vehicles swerved to avoid each other and the front right of Hernandez’s vehicle struck the front right of Wilson’s vehicle.
Hernandez’s vehicle came to a rest in the right lane facing west, while the Wilson vehicle traveled into the median, striking the cable barriers.
Hernandez was wearing a safety device. She was transported to a St. Louis hospital.
A crash shut down both eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 44 at the 235 mile marker on Wednesday night.
The accident involved two vehicles and one person is reportedly dead.
KMOV reported that it was a wrong way crash.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol has not released an accident report at this time.
