Council Moves Forward With East Vine Project, Sidewalk Grant

The Sullivan City Council took steps forward Tuesday, January 17, in bringing the East Vine St. waterline improvement project to fruition along with completing a grant seeking funds to construct sidewalks on North and South Rd.

Under City Administrator J.T. Hardy, the council approved the purchase of a water tapping machine for the water and sewer department from IMCOUtility Supply, St. Louis, in the amount of $15,625 even through it was less than three other bids between $25,000 and $30,000.

Hardy reported that bids were opened on January 11, for the East Vine water line improvement project that would increase water lines to an 8-inch line and replace existing lines.

The council accepted the bid from Don Maggi Inc. Rolla, in the amount of $1,227,623.34.

The project has been budgeted for improvements over the last several years but have not been completed thus the Water and Sewer Department requested the use of the existing funds budgeted for the project previously be applied to complete the project entirely.

The council, according to Hardy, would beed to make a budget adjustment in the Fiscal Year 2023 budget of $927,623.34.

The council by motion voted to approve the low bid from Don Maggi Inc., as well as make the required budget transfer for the project.

A project spearheaded by Alderman Ward Two Jason Alexander to have sidewalks constructed on North and South Rd. took another step forward in grant funding when the council approved the STP Grant application fee in the amount of $3,558. The check, which is refundable unlike most STP grants,  along with the STP grant application will be submitted to the East West Gateway Commission for consideration.

The council approved payment of the monthly bills in the amount of $1,747,846.73 unanimously.

The council went into closed session for one matter of personnel with action being taken to higher James Hall to the Sullivan Police Department as a road patrolman, pay $20.60 per hour.
