Council Discusses Sidewalks, Treatment Plant And Approves Ordinance

The Sullivan City Council met in open session on Tuesday, September 20, approving one ordinance, discussions on the wastewater treatment plant and sidewalk projects in the city of Sullivan.

Sullivan City Administrator J.T. Hardy reported that one of the wastewater treatment basins needs to be repaired and time is a factor since the basins utilize Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) technology.

Hardy reported that $100,000 is budgeted for Fiscal Year 2023 and Water/Sewer Commissioner John Garner recommended approving an estimate received from Vandevanter Engineering in the amount of $33,796.96, which includes a $13,440 charge for disassembly, cleaning and inspection of estimate services. The council approved this matter.

Hardy reported that one of two vehicles approved for purchase through the Missouri State Highway Patrol bid for patrol vehicles is not ready for pickup at a cost of $34,233.34. 

Patrol vehicle deliveries have been delayed since the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.

Hardy reported to the council that he has received many compliments from a downtown business owner about recent improvements.

The council approved payment of the monthly bills totaling $1,457,813.39 unanimously.

The council approved Ordinance 3971, which approved the division of one lot into two lots located off Sappington Bridge Rd. and owned by Penny McDaniel. The splitting of the lot was also approved following a public hearing by the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Alderman Jason Alexander reported some residents in Ward Two have expressed an interest in moving forward with a sidewalk project for North and South Road.

City staff noted that several areas in the city are seeking sidewalks. 

AAlexander stated he would like to see North and South Road moved up to the planning stage in order to apply for grant funding.

The council did have one matter for closed session regarding real estate with no action being taken.
