Council Approves Fair Request, Bid, Major Subdivision

The Sullivan City Council met in open session on Tuesday, May 3, where they approved two requests from the Meramec Community Fair, a bid for roof replacement at the Water and Sewer Department, approved a conditional use permit for a major subdivision off North and South Rd. and release of funds for the city portion of Village of Oak Grove joint transportation project.

The council heard from Meramec Community Fair Board and approved a request for the annual parade for Tuesday night, June 21 and the three normal beers gardens for the fair pending state approval.

The council approved the one and only bid received from Superior Industrial Coatings, O’Fallon in the amount of $24,900 for roof restoration at the Water and Sewer Department. The project was estimated at $20,000 but material prices have increased since the project was estimated.

The council unanimously approved releasing funds to Oak Grove Village in the amount of $300,000 from a joint transportation tax fund that will assist Oak Grove to repave Springfield Rd. within their corporate boundaries. The project is estimated at $1,189,223.

A new major subdivision, the first in more than a decade, was approved by the city council for a 37-lot development off North and South Rd., just south of Tessa Dr. The matter was also reviewed by Planning and Zoning and recommended approval.

The project is entitled L&M Subdivision and the request was from Lance Wiese.

Under Aldermen Input, multiple aldermen presented some items to the administration, with Alderman Chris Bunk asking about the status of the Elmont Overpass Tax and when the tax sunsets would the city be interested in asking voters to have these funds be used for a park tax to improve parks grounds or storm water.

City Administrator J.T. Hardy reported that the tax is expected to sunset in 2024 but that voters could be asked to approve the tax continuing for a Parks and Stormwater Improvement Tax.

The council had one matter of closed session in personnel with Don Randolph, being promoted to Code Administrator following the resignation of Dave Dawson, who moved on to the private sector.
