City Of Sullivan Approves Tax Levy Rate

The Sullivan City Council approved the 2022 tax levy following a public hearing on Tuesday, August 16, along with several bids and four ordinances.

The council held a public hearing at 7 p.m. with the 2022 tax levy set at $0.3988 cents per $100 assessed valuation, which is unchanged from 2021.

The real estate tax levy is expected to bring in $378,352 in 2022 compared to $377,263 in 2021.

The levy for the City of Sullivan only includes real estate property as the personal property tax was repealed in Sullivan 1993.

Following no public comment the council adjourned from the public hearing and later approved the tax levy for 2022 under Ordinance 3962.

Under requests and petitions Christa Harmon, President and Founder of MAAG (Mid-Mo Addiction Awareness Group) appeared before the council and requested used of the Skating Rink Annex building, parking lot, grassy area near building and adjoining pavilion for their Annual Substance Abuse Disorder Awareness Day.

The group is a nonprofit and has many displays and pamphlets to to be distributed during the event. Food trucks and several vendors will also be on hand for the day long event.

The council approved the request unanimously.

Three bids were approved by the council Tuesday evening that included: Padmount Transformers for Sullivan Electric Department from Cape Electrical Supply, Popular Bluff, $143,482.30; Manhole Lining Bid for Sullivan Water and Sewer Department from Midwest Infrastructure Coatings LLC, Kimberling City, $74,999 and Ultra Thin Bonding/Nova Chip Paving with N.B. West in the amount of $585,642.50.

The monthly bills were reviewed by Alderman Matt Wiegers and approved in the amount of $1,834,497.47.

Three other ordinances were approved Tuesday night with:

Ord. 3963, which approved the rezoning of property at North Church St. and North Center St., owned by JMR Development LLC from C-3 to R-2, single and multi family zoning;

Ord. 3964, approved combing two lots at 771 and 791 North Service Rd. East into one lot from two lots on property owned by Wallis Oil and;

Ord. 3965 approved a contract with N.B. West for 2022 ultra thin bonding/nova chip in the amount of $585,642.50 with a 15-day contract.

The council did have closed session for one matter of litigation and one matter of personnel with only action being taken to approve the hiring of Olivia Jones to full-time police dispatcher.
