Chamber Cancels Home And Garden Show Saturday

The Sullivan Chamber of Commerce was forced to cancel their annual Home and Garden Show planned for Sullivan Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall on Saturday, March 12, not due to Covid-19 but due to a loss of vendor booths as companies work to have enough employees to operate.

Sullivan Chamber of Commerce Director, Shawna Speaks, was contacted by Sullivan Independent News Monday, March 7, to confirm that the event has been cancelled for 2022.

“We did not have to cancel this show due to Covid in 2020 and 2021 but this year we faced having only 10 vendor booths compared to 30 plus over the last several years,” said Speaks. “The biggest issue we heard for vendors wasn’t that they didn’t want to do the show but that with limited labor support they would be unable to attend this year.”

Speaks stated that Sullivan Chamber of Commerce plans to resume the event in 2023 but felt there was no way to hold the event with such limited vendors.

“This show has annually had the biggest vendor turnout for the Chamber and I never thought this show would have to be cancelled do to employers having staffing issues for the booths,” said Speaks.

Speaks stated that the Chamber will continue to work with area businesses to help promote them and reach possible future employees.
