Trial Set For Man Accused Of Shooting Victim Through Car

A trial has been set for a Bourbon man who allegedly shot a woman through her car last fall. 

Caleb Sappington, 20, is scheduled to face a jury trial Sept. 11-13 before Judge Megan Seay in Crawford County.

A plea hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 5. 

During a hearing March 5, Seay sustained a motion for bond modification. Sappington’s GPS bracelet was removed, per online records. 

Sappington faces a total of seven counts, including three counts of armed criminal action, two first-degree assault, one county of first-degree assault — serious injury and one count of unlawful use of a weapon.

Sappington is accused of shooting the victim in the back of the shoulder. as they were driving away from his house.

The shooting occurred Nov. 20, 2023.

The victim was told to leave and was driving away. Sappington’s mother allegedly followed the victim, who flipped her off. Sappington grabbed a .243 rifle and fired at the victim, according to court documents. 

The gun and spent cartridges were recovered.
