Trial Set For Man Accused Of Firing At Lost Motorist, Passenger

A trial has been set for a Crawford County man who allegedly fired his gun at a lost motorist and passenger.

Joseph Caltry, 45, is scheduled to face a jury Sept. 11-13.

Caltry, who faces charges for unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm, has until Aug. 6 to plead guilty.

Caltry was convicted for drug possession in 2018 and is disqualified from owning a firearm.

Court documents say Caltry believed the motorist and passenger were “tweakers casing his place” and told the deputy the vehicle was “suspicious.”

The two victims had received permission to fish at a lake nearby and drove down Caltry’s road, which dead ends.

The two male victims stopped in front of Caltry’s house. Caltry approached them and asked what they were doing, then the conversation escalated.

The victims left and Caltry got in his truck and followed.

He allegedly fired a shot in the air from outside his vehicle, then retrieved the firearm.

Caltry, who has a Cuba address, last appeared in court May 6.
