St. Clair Man To Be Arraigned On Child Abuse Charge

A St. Clair man was scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 13 on the charge that he abused a newborn infant.

Steven W. Sanders will appear before Judge Michael Randazzo.

Sanders faces one count of abuse or neglect of a child resulting in physical injury, stemming from an October 2023 incident in Crawford County.

According to the probable cause statement, Sanders allegedly shook a crying two-month-old infant and playfully tossed her into the air, actions that resulted in severe injuries.

The infant sustained multiple fractures to her ribs, femur, and collarbone, as well as retinal hemorrhage and extensive bruising.

The situation came to light when the child’s mother brought her to the pediatrician, who found the bruising suspicious. The infant was subsequently taken to Children’s Hospital, where multiple fractures were confirmed.

On October 26, 2023, Sanders visited the Union Police Department, where he admitted to shaking the baby three times because her crying gave him a headache. He also demonstrated how he tossed the infant in the air during play.
