Sex Offender Arrested For Failing To Update Vehicle

A Steelville man on the sex offender registry was arrested Aug. 7 for failing to update his information.

Jeffrey Van Bibber, 51, has been charged with failing to register.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office said Van Bibber was driving a car that was not listed on his registry.

Van Bibber was convicted in 2007 for raping a victim less than 14 and enticing a child under 12.

The offenses happened in Oklahoma City in 2006.

Additional misdemeanor charges for driving while revoked/suspended and operating a motor vehicle knowing the owner has not maintained financial responsibility also were filed.

Van Bibber has posted bond.

The probable cause statement claims Van Bibber rolled through a stop sign in Cherryville.

Van Bibber told the deputy his son had purchased the vehicle a month earlier and he was unable to provide a title or proof of insurance.

Van Bibber told the deputy he had been driving the vehicle for about a week. He allegedly admitted to knowing he had not registered it through the sex offender registry.
