Martin Resigns As County Clerk

John Martin has resigned as Crawford County Clerk, ending a nine-year tenure that spanned more than two terms.

Martin submitted his resignation, effective Sept. 30. The Crawford County Republican Central Committee will be conducting interviews with people interested in receiving their recommendation to Gov. Mike Parson for appointment.

The CCRCC will meet at Cuba Lakes Country Club on Oct. 22, at 5:30 p.m.

Martin was appointed to the position in 2015 to replace Mardy Leathers. He filled out the remainder of Leathers’ term, then was unopposed in 2018 and 2022.

Martin had been working remotely since the end of the Aug. 6 election. An explanation was never given. He faced questions over his absence since that time.

During the Sept. 24 meeting, Annette Burdett called on Martin to resign for his part in the ballot confusion of Aug. 6. Burdett, a resident in the Liberty-Liberty precinct of Liberty Township, was moved from District 1 to District 2 in 2022 upon passage of an ordinance changing the boundary lines.

Burdett told commissioners during the meeting that if Martin did not resign, she would sue the county.
