Jurisdictions Set Tax Levies

Crawford County, the Crawford County R-1 School District and the city of Bourbon have set their 2023 tax levies.

Crawford County set its tax levy during the Aug. 22 meeting.

The road district rate was set at 21 cents per $100 of assessed valuation, while the general revenue remained at zero.

Crawford County does not collect any general revenue from the tax levy in accordance with the sales tax increase that was passed in 2018 and 2023.

The Crawford County R-1 School District levy was set at $3.926 per $100 of assessed valuation, a slight increase from last year.

Board members voted to approve the levy during the Aug. 24 meeting.

The incidental fund was set at $2.99, while the debt service levy remained at 93.5 cents.

The levy remains unchanged in exchange for voters approving bond issues.

The district has not asked voters to pass a bond issue since June 2020.

Bourbon’s city council passed its tax levy during the Aug. 15 meeting.

The assessed valuation for 2023 is $7,567,850 for residential, $4,258,262 for commercial and $2,500 for agriculture.

The total valuation was $11,828,612.

New construction and improvements increased by $67,530.

The tax levy was set at 82 cents for the general fund, 39 cents for police purposes and 9 cents for the park system, totaling $1.3184 per $100 of assessed valuation.

The city is projected to receive $151,848.41 in real estate taxes.

More than $98,000 will go to the general fund, $46,000 for the police and $11,000 for the park.
