District Outlines Safety Grant Plans

The Crawford County R-1 School Board has unveiled its plans for the $100,000 School Safety Grant it was awarded earlier this month.

Bourbon was one of 556 schools that received an award through Missouri’s second round of funding. It is part of the state’s School Safety Grant Program.

Expenditures must be made before April 20, 2024 and in accordance with the Safety Grant Application.

This includes:

-Building surveillance

-Bleeding control kits and Automated External Defibrillators (AED) kits with accessories

-Window coverings for high school entrance and elementary

-Video door systems

-Bus camera systems

The bleeding control kit contains the necessary items to control serious bleeding and prevent further blood loss for a victim suffering a traumatic injury.

AED kits/rescue ready CPR kits have the equipment needed during a first aid and sudden cardiac arrest emergency.

On building surveillance, the district will be adding cameras to the elementary and middle school entrances and Jost Street entrances to cover the doors.

The door camera systems will connect to the office phones for video and communication.

For bus camera systems, the district can renew its contract with the Transporting system and upgrade.

The contract ends in December.

The systems are four years old and aging.

The current systems can be replaced with hard drives that are proven to be more dependable. The district says they do not rely on network of Internet connection to work.

Camera systems also can be added to the two trip buses.

Window coverings can be added at the high school cafeteria entrance and elementary front doors/cafeteria.

The window coverings have the Warhawk logo. They allow staff to see out the window, but no one can look in.
