Crawford County Receives Offer On Garage
Crawford County commissioners have received a $100,000 offer for the empty garage on Highway 19 in Cuba.
The building was bought in 2020 for use as the coroner’s office, but has been sitting in limbo for nearly 18 months.
Commissioners in 2020 paid almost $150,000 for the building and it appraised around $140,000 in 2023.
The offer given to the commission during its June 18 meeting was merely verbal. Commissioners were expected to discuss the offer during closed session of the July 2 meeting, if a written one was submitted.
Commissioners voted in March to lower the price from $139,900 to $134,900.
The commission budgeted more than $1 million for the renovation in 2023, but upon Steve Black coming into office as presiding commissioner, the county switched gears.
The county instead bought the former Three Rivers Publishing building for the coroner.
Commissioners have been looking to unload the building throughout 2024.
The county also has the Tutterow building, which was purchased in fall 2022.
Among other county properties, the University of Missouri extension office has been relocated to a space at STE Communications in Steelville.
The commission is using the former extension office for storage.
