Crawford County Commission Searching For Next EMD
Crawford County commissioners are searching for the next Emergency Management Director.
Lesa Mizell, who passed away June 14, had served as the county’s previous EMD. Mizell tendered her resignation May 9.
District 2 Commissioner Jared Boast was unofficially the county’s interim EMD, but said that the position needed to be quickly filled after tornadoes touched down in the area April 15.
The EMD works with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) if a disaster hits.
It is a part-time position with pay beginning at $5,000 per year and up to $10,000, depending upon emergency disaster declaration.
The EMD:
Oversees and supervises the day-to-day and emergency operation for emergency management;
Coordinates and participates in the development and maintenance of plans and procedures;
Coordinates countywide activities of response personnel in Crawford County;
Oversees training programs and exercises for staff, personnel and volunteers;
Informs and educates the public regarding emergency management operations;
Interfaces with state and federal emergency management agencies, legislative groups and peer agencies in the preparation and funding of emergency response programs; and,
Participates in self-development and continuing education activities as prescribed by state and federal agencies.
The EMD must be a Crawford County resident or be willing to confirm relocation within 90 days of being hired.
The EMD also must possess ICS and NIMS courses as required.
