County’s General Revenue Sales Tax Soars

Crawford County’s general revenue sales tax has mostly been down from last year, but rebounded with a strong June.

According to the monthly sales tax report, revenue was up 32 percent for June.

Crawford County brought in $215,836.81.

Last June, the county brought in $162,752.08. It was the lowest June total since the increased sales tax went into effect.

This year’s June collection is the second-highest on record. The only other time the county collected this much revenue in June was in 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The county has now collected $1,459,690.39 this year.

June’s sales tax rebound has helped push the county further ahead in revenue than at the same point last year.

June, along with a strong April, have helped revenue stay ahead even though every other month has been down year-over-year.

A new report should be available in the coming days for July, where county officials will hope for another month as robust as last year.

In July 2023, the county collected more than $240,000. That was down from July 2022, only because of an atypical month where more than $270,300 was generated.

State

State Budget Director Dan Haug said that net general revenue collections for June 2024 increased 3.3 percent compared to those for June 2023, from $1.22 billion last year to $1.26 billion this year.

Net general revenue collections for 2024 fiscal year-to-date increased 1.5 percent compared to June 2023, from $13.23 billion last year to $13.43 billion this year.
