City Of Bourbon Passes $2.3 Million Budget
The Bourbon City Council in June passed a $2.3 million budget for the fiscal year 2024-25.
A chunk of this year’s budget includes Department of Natural Resource (DNR) grant funding for the water and sewer department.
The city has budgeted:
$10,050 for municipal court;
$379,420 for the police;
$228,320 for street;
$65,842 for the park department;
$476,850 for water;
$627,950 for sewer; and,
$521,000 for city hall.
The city hall funding includes $133,805 from American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.
City hall’s budget is roughly $27,000 higher than last year, mostly due to a $30,000 increase in capital expenditures.
The city is budgeting for $92,900 in real estate taxes and $90,000 in sales taxes.
The consolidated use tax, which went into effect in September 2022, is projected to bring in $40,500.
The city budgeted $18,275 for 2023-24, but it ended the fiscal year above $40,000.
Police
The city is budgeting for $44,200 from real estate tax, down from $50,000 the last two years.
Sales tax is projected at $112,000, while the half-cent sales tax that began in October 2016 is projected for $105,500.
Revenue from the use tax was budgeted at $22,000 for 2023-24, but is $50,500 for 2024-25.
Wages are budgeted at $186,000.
The city budgeted $227,021 in 2022-23 and $202,450 in 2023-24.
Street
The street department’s budget is up due to releasing $41,000 from the prior year’s street fund cash balance.
Other revenues are in line with figures budgeted for 2023-24.
Park
The city has added $20,000 to the park budget with the release of prior year’s operating funds.
Water
Much of the water department income is from nearly $180,000 in Department of Natural Resources (DNR) funding for lead service line inventory.
Water sales are projected at $217,160, up from $214,000 last year.
Sewer
The sewer department has budgeted $300,000 from DNR.
Sewer fees are budgeted at $326,000.
