CCR-1 Sees Huge Bump On APR

The Crawford County R-1 School District recorded a huge spike in their Annual Performance Report.

The district notched an 84.1 percent for the 2022-2023 school year, a 17.5 point increase from the previous year.

Attendance dragged down the score 2 percent in one of the categories.

The 2023 APR is the second year the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has used Cycle 6.

APR identifies school performance so that districts can continue to improve.

DESE weights 70 percent of the score on performance, including academic achievement, success-ready students, graduation rate and follow-up.

The other 30 percent is based on a Continuous School Improvement Plan (CSIP), attendance, climate and culture survey and timely submitting DESE documentation.

Bourbon earned 104.8 out of 132 points on performance and 50 out of 52 points on continuous improvement.

Of the Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) schools, Bourbon ranked first.

Other schools are Steelville (78.6 percent), Vienna (76.2 percent), Viburnum (75.4 percent), Cuba (71.6 percent) and Belle (63 percent).

The district received 100 percent on English Language Arts; improved from 50 percent to 75 percent in mathematics and science, respectively; and scored 75 percent on social studies.

On college and career readiness, the district received 100 percent in advanced credit programs, like Project Lead the Way, Industry Recognized Credentials (IRC), dual credit and dual enrollment.

The graduation rate netted Bourbon 20 out of 20 points, with the district having a 90 percent rate.

At the 180-day follow-up, 52 out of 57 students were accounted for.

More than 10 percent were attending a four-year college/university, 19.3 percent were at a two-year college, 49.1 percent were employed and 7 percent were enlisted in the military.

On continuous improvement, Bourbon missed out on a perfect score by just two points.

All incoming kindergarten students completed the entry assessment as part of screening.

In future years, the district says students will complete a state-approved assessment once they start kindergarten.

BES

The elementary school scored 51.2 percent on its portion of the APR.

BES received just 47.2 percent of the possible points (34 out of 72) on the academic performance.

It was a “significant improvement” over the previous year, but much work remains to be done.

The overall academic status for all students and student groups is average to below average.

BMS

BMS received 75.5 percent, an improvement “but still…room to grow.”

Students scored 100 percent of the points in ELA, math and science.

Student growth was a bright spot, but attendance was below 79 percent for the year.

BHS

The high school scored 49.8 percent on performance, but the district says it is not an accurate reflection of its efforts.

Performance in ELA and social students is 75 percent, while math and science are 50 percent.

Errors with the college and career readiness assessments caused issues that the district is hoping will allow them to gain back points next year.
