BFPD Board Member Passes Away
Dan Simmerly, a director on the Bourbon Fire Protection District board, has passed away.
The fire district stated that Simmerly “was a remarkable family man, leader, friend and a tremendous asset to the community, leaving behind a lasting impact that will continue to inspire positive change.”
Simmerly was in his second year of a six-year term on the board of directors. He was elected to the board in April 2023.
According to board procedures, any vacancy on the board shall be filled by the remaining elected members. If fewer than two elected members remain, the vacancy shall be filled by the circuit court of the county in which all or a majority of the district lies. The appointee or appointees will serve until the next biennial election, at which point a director or directors will be elected to complete the remainder of the unexpired term.
