Vandalism Remains Issue At City Park

Vandalism remains an ongoing issue at the Bourbon City Park.

For the past several years, Park Board President Steve Pasch and members of the council have tried to solve the problem of vandals turning the lights on after dark at the basketball courts.

The city tried numerous solutions, but eager vandals were still able to break through every contraption and turn the lights on.

Pasch told the council Jan. 24 that “extensive damage” was done to the bathrooms.

Pasch said a brick was used to break a double lock, then the toilet was kicked off the flange. A water fountain was also ripped off the wall.

Frustrated, Pasch told the council they didn’t need to keep pumping money into repairs, but something needed to be done.

“I can’t believe we can’t catch them,” said Ward 2 Alderwoman Mary Heywood.

Ward 1 Alderman John Nelson suggested the city look into placing cameras around the property. The council discussed possible locations.

Ward 1 Alderwoman Margie Brine said she wanted to see the damage repaired. Pasch agreed, asking if the cost of doing nothing would be higher.
