Preliminary Hearing For Road Rage Suspect May 5
A Bourbon man accused of assaulting a woman so severely that it caused a brain injury is scheduled to appear in court May 5 for a preliminary hearing.
Joseph Voisey, 36, faces one count of first-degree assault in the Aug. 17, 2021 incident that left Jamie Peters partially paralyzed and caused a traumatic brain injury.
The assault was allegedly sparked by a road rage incident around 6:50 a.m. that day.
Voisey last appeared in court on March 10.
It took nearly three months to file charges against Voisey, who was able to evade detectives.
Peters’ family conducted an independent inquiry that led to Voisey being identified as the suspect.
Voisey was contacted by detectives on Oct. 7. While he didn’t deny involvement, he declined to speak with detectives.
Detectives were able to piece together cell phone data, GPS location data and Voisey’s employment time records to determine that he was the suspect.
A benefit was held for Peters on Saturday at the Sullivan Eagles Hall.
She is still recovering and requires specially made braces, medications and traveling expenses for therapy and doctor appointments.
