Filing Ends With Few Candidates Declaring
Filing for the municipal and school board elections in April ended last Tuesday with few candidates in Bourbon coming forward for either one.
The city council saw incumbents Ward 1 Alderwoman Margie Brine and Ward 2 Alderwoman Mary Heywood file for reelection, but they will be unopposed when voters head to the polls next spring.
Brine was first appointed to the council in October 2019 following the death of Mayor Danny Skaggs.
She took the seat of Dave Lafferty, who became mayor with Skaggs’ passing.
Heywood was appointed in January 2022 after the board voted to remove Clifford Crawford as alderman.
Crawford had won a special election against Heywood in May 2021. The two tied a month earlier.
Crawford had sporadic attendance during his seven months on the board and he moved out of the city limits at some point, which forced the city to take action.
School Board
No election will be needed for the Crawford County R-1 School Board after two incumbents and one newcomer filed for three seats.
Board President Stephen Waldron, Sean Kaysinger and Ryan Cole filed for the seats.
Board member Suzanne Louderman, first appointed in 2019, did not file for another term. Louderman is coming off her first full term on the board.
