County Sales Tax Dips For October

Crawford County’s general revenue sales tax dipped for October, the first year-over-year decline since May.

The dip was slight.

The county collected $176,896.85, down from $180,273.08 in October 2021 — a 1.87 percent fall.

With one month of collection left for 2022, the county stands to see an overall gain from last year.

The county has collected $2,449,968.48. In 2021, the county collected $2,561,445.70.

Revenue has nearly matched 2020 ($2,469,395.63) and 2019 ($2,175,319.91).

2019 represented the first full year of the county’s enhanced sales tax, which was passed in April 2018 and went into effect in October 2018.

While 2022 began with the county smashing year-over-year totals and seeing record monthly revenues, the second half has been more modest.

Revenue was up 21 percent for December 2021, 11 percent for January, down 20 percent for February, back up 36 percent for March and 21 percent for April.

But after falling 5 percent for May, revenue has fluctuated between going up 1 percent to 6 percent.

The county has brought in around $1.17 million for each fund so far this year.

Last year, each fund received $1.22 million.
