County Awards $60,000 To Cuba Daycare

Crawford County commissioners awarded $60,000 of its American Rescue Plan funds to All Aboard Learning Center last month.

The Cuba daycare was the fourth recipient of the county’s $4.6 million funds.

All Aboard said on its application that it has 41 openings in its facility and needs to hire more staff.

All Aboard claimed that many childcare facilities have closed since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and there is a “childcare desert” in Crawford County.

“There are more than three times as many children as there are licensed child care slots,” the daycare wrote.

Practical POCUS was the first, receiving $540,000 for a building renovation and training. The point-of-care ultrasound company plans to have the building open later this fall.

The next to receive funds were the village of Leasburg and the Bourbon Fire Protection District.

Leasburg received more than $350,000 for the rehab of its water storage tank.

The village matched 15% in matching funds.

The project will include sandblasting the exterior surfaces and painting.

Bourbon’s fire district received $108,000 to purchase 20 new Scott self-contained breath apparatus.

Each firefighter will receive their own apparatus.

The district matched 10% of the funds.

District 2 Commissioner Jared Boast, whose company handles the water for the village and is a firefighter for the Bourbon district, abstained on both votes.
